Black-owned apparel brand celebrating Black history & culture. Designs rooted in legacy, pride & purpose. Wear the Past, Inspire the Future.
Admit one to history.
Tuesday, April 8, 1930. North Side YMCA, 22nd and Grant Streets. Tip-off at 7:00 PM. On the court: the Cudahy Rex.
Before the NBA integrated in 1950, Black players were shut out of the major professional leagues, so they built their own game. All-Black teams known as “fives” played in YMCAs, church halls, and community gyms across the country. Historians call it the Black Fives era, and the Cudahy Rex, sponsored by the Cudahy Packing Company, were part of that story.
The Cudahy Rex Hoodie carries a recreated ticket to their 10th Annual World’s Championship Basketball Tournament, designed down to the details: the seat stub (Aisle 17, Sec T, Row 10, Seat 13), the matching serial number, the 75¢ mezzanine price with its 1930 federal tax line, and a crown watermark drawn from the Cudahy Rex mark.
It isn’t merch. It’s admission.

This stuff is fire!
My tee shirt was created by Victoria Irene Apparel Co. It celebrates the Black Press by highlighting The Chicago Defender. Founded in 1905 by Robert S. Abbott it was once considered the "most important" newspaper of its kind.
Received a complement about the Chicago Defender shirt from an old lady
